BEGA VALLEY BUSHFIRE UPDATE, 12:26pm, January 31
📌Evacuation centres open now at Bega Showground and Bermagui Surf Club. Please bring your own bedding. Plans are in place to open and evac centre in Merimbula if the need arises.
📌Very High Fire Danger today moving to a Severe Fire Danger on Saturday.
📌Temps high 30s to early 40s today - hotter on Saturday. Bad weather expected to stay with us till atleast midnight Saturday and into early Sunday. Variable winds with a NW and E influence strengthening.
📌Weather and fire behaviour is increasingly unpredictable
📌Communities of concern: Dignams Creek, Coolagoltie, localities between Magareeka and Bermagui, Candelo, Tantawangalo, Rocky Hall, Nethercote, Towamba, Burragate, Wyndham, Mt Darragh, New Buildings.
📌Advice for the wider Bega Valley: Get a good understanding of where the fire is compared to where you are. The risk of new fires breaking out is real, stay informed, be prepared, be vigilant.
📌Remember - power goes out, communication becomes harder, roads get closed.
📌If you are not mentally and physically prepared to defend your home, life and loved ones, please leave now to a safer place with friends and family in urban centres like Bega, Merimbula, Eden.
📌Water advice: Bega Valley Shire Council asked that you please limit the use of town water - unattended sprinklers and unnecessary hosing down of houses and property has a significant impact on the water storage and water pressure available to fire fighters.
📌 Next live update with @Far South Coast Rural Fire Service will be broadcast via Council’s Facebook page at 2:30pmish this afternoon (Friday) and at 10:30amish and 2:30pmish Saturday, with written updates in the meantime. We do our best to be on time, but will wait for new info.
