Being controlled, with hope of containment over next week or two

No running fire is the message at the moment from the Rural Fire Service, regarding the major fires burning on the Far South Coast. The rain over the last few days has helped. Ten to 20 mm was recorded on the Border fire and the other bushfires in the Bega Valley and Eurobodalla have also had rain fall.

Planes going up today will give a clearer picture of where the hotspots are.

The RFS is keen to warn against complacency and says there are warmer days ahead, but nothing in the forecast at the moment like the catastrophic days that we have experienced and that have led to the disaster we are dealing with economically and environmentally.

So good news at the moment.
