Currowan fire moves to Watch & Act overnight with westerly winds to pick up again today

The Currowan fire north of Batemans Bay has moved to a Watch & Act level alert overnight as crews from NSW and Victoria battled the fire in gusty conditions, protecting properties in the East Lynne, Kioloa and Bawley Point areas. Click here for the latest bushfire update and information from the Rural Fire Service.

The fire remains out of control.

Aircraft will be in the air this morning to assess the spread of the fire. Areas that have been too dangerous to access will also be assessed by fire crews this morning.

The Princes Highway remains closed between Termeil and the Kings Hwy turn-off north of the Bay.

An RFS spokesman this morning however warned the fire is far from over, and unless there's significant rain could continue to burn until "it runs out of fuel".

Strong westerly wind gusts of up to 50km/h are expected on the fire ground again today, which will once again put pressure on coastal communities in the region.

Overnight 17 trucks from the RFS, 10 trucks working in NSW Fire and Rescue strike teams, plus teams from Victoria's Country Fire Association and the National Parks and Wildlife Service and Forestry worked on the fire.

Conditions began to ease up in the early hours when the temperature and wind dropped and humidity rose.
