Eurobodalla to consider climate emergency, but what does it mean?

Eurobodalla Council is set to debate a climate emergency for the shire. Over 30 councils across Australia have now declared a climate emergency for their region. Bega Valley Shire Council will also consider a climate emergency at its next meeting.

About 100 people gathered outside the council chambers this morning in support of the motion to be put to council by Greens councillor Pat McGinlay.

Kathryn Maxwell from the South Coast's Health and Sustainability Alliance told Tonia Liosatos an emergency declaration is not just empty words, but will require council to consider risk from a climate perspective, just as it does when looking at financial risk in its decision making.
