A 36-year old Bega man is in custody following a fatal stabbing at Eden yesterday.
The fatal stabbing of a 49-year-old man at Eden is surrounded in mystery this morning after a police media statement last night which said the police investigation would be conducted by Lake Illawarra police and be subject to an independent investigation. Eden is in the South Coast Police District. Here is the police statement issued by police media in full:
"A critical incident investigation is underway following the death of a man in the state's far south today.
Police attended Moorhead Street, Eden, about 3.45pm, Thursday, April 4, in response to a disturbance.
On arrival police became aware of two men inside the home; one allegedly armed with a knife.
As inquiries continued, police entered the home and found a 49-year-old man suffering a fatal stab wound.
A 36-year-old man Bega man was arrested at the scene and taken to Eden Police Station.
A Critical Incident Investigation Team from Lake Illawarra will now investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The investigation will be subject to independent review.
All information will be provided to the Coroner who will determine the cause of death and make any findings about the events leading to the man's death.
