The 2018 Nikon Surf Photo of the Year Award – which is now open for entries - will recognise the best single surfing-themed image taken by an Australian in 2017.

The Nikon team is encouraging far south coast photographers to submit photos that can be taken anywhere around the world and can be drawn from action, lifestyle/portrait, or scenic photography.

The more creative, the better! The final selection of photographs will be judged on the following criteria:

- Innovation and creativity

- Dramatic affect and sensory impact

- Uniqueness...Composition of the photo Steph Gilmore, professional surfer, six-time champion of the Women’s ASP World Tour and Nikon Ambassador said, “Surf is in the DNA of every Australian.

Even if you can’t actually surf yourself, there’s no way that you don’t get a thrill from seeing the incredible untamed power of the ocean.

That’s what Nikon’s Surf Photo of the Year competition is designed to do: to inspire and wow people through their talent and the raw power of nature in simply stunning imagery.

As a photographer myself, I look forward to seeing how Aussie’s capture the surf for this year’s competition.”

After entries close (at 5pm AEST on 8th January 2018) the panel of 13 high-profile judges from within the surfing industry, including Nikon’s partner in the project – Surfing Australia - will be tasked with selecting the winning surfing photo based on a range of strict criteria.
