People living in the Gilmore electorate might have to wait a bit longer before they find out the result of the May 21st election.

Gilmore has become the most marginal electorate in the country, and the result has been on a knife-edge.

But the Australian Electoral Commission indicated it was planning to declare the official result today, but then the declaration was delayed.

Meanwhile Liberal Party candidate Andrew Constance has formally requested a recount, even before the result has been officially announced.

He issued a statement this afternoon saying, “As counting has progressed over the last couple of weeks, my scrutineers have raised concerns in relation to certain aspects of the process, particularly the scrutiny of informal votes.

“Given the close result, I believe there are strong grounds for a recount and I have submitted a request to the Australian Electoral Commissioner,” Mr Constance said.

“I will not be providing any further comment at this time, while the Commissioner considers the request.”
