Southern NSW LHD CEO awarded OAM

Southern NSW Local Health District’s Chief Executive Margaret Bennett has been awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia in the General Division.

Ms Bennett who joined Southern NSW LHD in her current role in 2020, has a health career spanning 40 years and has been recognised for her service to medical administration.

She previously held the position of CEO of Northeast Health Wangaratta in Victoria for nine years.

Her broad-based clinical background includes senior executive appointments in health and hospital services in
NSW, Victoria and Western Australia with a proven track record as an experienced, capable, highly visible and successful health leader.

Southern NSW LHD Board Chair, Beth Hoskins, said Ms Bennett’s exceptional leadership and significant contribution to the health and wellbeing of local communities exemplify the very best Australian values.

“Margaret has steered our communities through the most challenging crises in recent memory,” Ms Hoskins said.

“Her list of achievements is long and varied and we are incredibly fortunate to have Margaret as our Chief Executive, and I am personally grateful for her wisdom, tenacity, and commitment,” she said.

The Order of Australia recognises achievements which benefit or bring honour to the Australian community.

Appointments to and awards in the Order of Australia confer recognition for outstanding achievement and service.

Presentation of the insignia of the award will occur at the investiture ceremony planned for later this year.
