Contrary to their comments last week stating the Narooma Post office (PO) would open this week, an Australia Post spokesperson said the PO would now continue to be closed until further notice.
The PO was locked up to keep staff and the community safe after a lead contaminant was found in the back room of the post office on February 5.
“Tests were conducted, including air monitoring tests, that all came back clear,” the spokesperson told East Coast Radio on February 15 but they have since said there is still work that needs to be completed.
“There is still some work that needs to be done before the post office can reopen and unfortunately the timeframe is longer than originally expected,” the spokesperson said.
“We are hopeful of reopening the Narooma branch in early March but will keep the community informed.
“We thank our customers for their patience and apologise for these delays but the safety and wellbeing of our staff and customers is our highest priority.”
PO Box Mail has been redirected to the Distribution Centre located at 1/8 Murphy Place in Narooma, with locals asked to visit the Central Tilba (2 Bate Street), Bodalla (66a Princes Highway) or Moruya (15 Church Street) PO’s between 9am-5pm Monday to Friday for all other postal services until the Narooma branch reopens.
Anyone with feedback or questions for Australia Post can call 13 13 18.
