Eurobodalla Shire Council has two entries in the National Awards for Local Government.
Both entries fall into the Regional Growth category with the first being the upgrades to the Observation Point lookout in Batehaven that combined accessibility, recreation and Indigenous heritage.
Observation Point is the northern gateway to the 14.5km Coastal Headlands Walking Trail. The trail links headlands and beaches between Batehaven and McKenzies Beach via existing natural bush tracks.
The second entry – council’s beach mobility mats, aim to help people with reduced mobility access seven Eurobodalla beaches.
Rolled out across the sand like a long, heavy-duty carpet and providing a stable surface for people using mobility aids, the mats are available at seven of the shire’s patrolled beaches over summer: Surf Beach, Malua Bay, South Broulee, Moruya South Head, Tuross Main, Dalmeny, and Narooma Surf Beach.
Voting is open until 11:59pm on April 14. Individuals can place one vote per category.
To ensure equal opportunity, entries will be displayed in a unique order to voters.
The winner of each category will be the eligible initiative which receives the most votes during the voting period. Honourable mentions may also be awarded in some or all categories.
