Bega Valley Shire Council is monitoring the situation at a Bermagui development site after community complaints about a mud sludge being washed through part of the town during that big rain event last week.
Residents called on the council to immediately investigate the serious situation which resulted in a mix of dirt and clay covering a nearby gold course, mangroves and into the harbour.

But council director Emily Harrison said they are working closely with the Sapphire Cove development to ensure it is managed in accordance with their approvals.
“In cases of intense volumes of rain, like we saw, there is little that can be done to prevent some run off occurring,” she said.
