A semi trailer carrying a load of bread has gone up in flames on the South Coast.
Emergency Services were alerted to an incident on the Kings Highway, approximately 250m east of the Western Distributor turn off, west of Nelligen, shortly before 1am Tuesday morning (January 30).
Upon arrival, crews found a truck and trailer was fully alight on the side of the highway.
Four RFS trucks from the Nelligen, Batemans Bay and Braidwood Rural Fire Brigades attended, with the assistance of Fire and Rescue NSW.
Crews worked to extinguish the fire which was contained at approximately 4:30am and no injuries were reported.
“Our crew utilised breathing apparatus assisted by heavy machinery to extinguish the deep seated fire in the almost fully loaded semi,” A Batemans Bay RFS Spokesperson said.
“The vehicle was fully laden with bread and fully engulfed when they arrived and they worked tirelessly until around 7am to get it put out,” he said.
“It was a great display of teamwork from all services who rapidly contained the incident meaning the Kings Highway only had to be closed briefly.
“There was plenty of toast there but no coffee.”
