Down South Jazz Club Presents: Leisa & The Keen Kats – 18 January
On 18th January at Club Sapphire the Down South Jazz Club is delighted to open the New
Year with a fantastic night of jazz by presenting a very entertaining Canberra band “Leisa
and The Keen Kats” – the hottest little big band on the scene!
This 7-piece band was born from a collaboration between Leisa Keen and Andrew Hackwill
for NYE 2022/23…And they had so much fun they decided to keep it going! The band plays
a chocolate box of great tunes – such as “Don’t Get Around Much”, “Stompin’at the Savoy”,
“Honeysuckle Rose”, “I Can’t Give You Anything but Love”, “Sway”, and many others – but
Andrew’s superb arrangements give these old favourites a new and groovy life.
With a 3-piece horn section, a 5 piece rhythm section and the powerhouse vocals of Leisa
Keen, you are set for a night of toe-tapping fun with Leisa and the Keen Kats.
Leisa (keyboard & vocals) has appeared at the Down South Jazz Club as well as the
Merimbula Jazz festival many times. After training in classical piano for 12 years, Leisa went
on to study jazz vocals at the Canberra School of Music. She has been working in the
Australian music industry for nearly 30 years in both jazz and musical theatre/cabaret. She
has shared the stage with many internationally acclaimed jazz vocal artists.
On this occasion she will be accompanied by Andrew Hackwill (baritone sax), Mereki Leten
(tenor sax), Zach Raffan (trumpet), Anthony Irving (bass), Greg Stott (guitar) and Steve
This great night will cost $20 for jazz club members and $25 for visitors with music
commencing at 7.30 pm (doors open at 7 pm). Bookings can be made by sending an email to
