Work on SECCA, the South East Centre for Contemporary Art, has paused while the administrator reviews the project and determines next steps.

It comes after news that civil design and construction specialists, the Lloyd Group, entered voluntary administration on Friday (March 31).

Bega Valley Shire Council’s Director of Community, Environment and Planning, Emily Harrison, said work on SECCA, has been halted while the administrator reviews the project and determines next steps.

“While the gallery is nearing completion, unfortunately this news means our community opening event, which was planned for 29 April, will be delayed,” Ms Harrison said.

“Once we receive a full briefing from the administrator and we know the impact on the completion of the build, we’ll be able to set a new date for the opening and update the community.

No other Bega Valley Shire Council projects are affected however about 59 Lloyd Group projects are still not finished, including 30 in New South Wales and 29 in Victoria.

Starting off as a family-owned business from Melbourne’s south-east in the late 1970’s, the company has since expanded to employ about 200 people across offices in Sydney, Brisbane and Geelong.

The news about the Lloyd Group came on the same day as one of Australia’s largest construction companies, Porter Davis Homes, went into liquidation with more than 1,500 projects still yet to be completed.
