Three men and a woman charged with the alleged murder of Bega man Gordon Kessey have been refused bail after making their first court appearances since being arrested yesterday.
Strike Force Nakstone detectives carried out simultaneous raids at two properties in Bega and one at Bemboka yesterday morning.
Police alleged 43-year-old Kessey was stabbed to death in an altercation between two groups in a park on East Street Bega around 2am on Monday October 5.
A second man, 45 year-old Benjamin Smith was also allegedly injured and rushed to hospital but has since been released.
Over the past six weeks detectives have conducted several searches including calling in police divers and also a re-enactment at the scene.
29-year-old Kody Lloyd, 32-year-old Dion Lloyd, and 34-year-old Benjamin Keith Robinson did not apply for bail when fronting the Parramatta Bail Court in handcuffs and the clothes they were apprehended in via videolink from Batemans Bay Police Station.
Bail was formally refused.
19 year-old Litisha Mundy made an application for bail with her lawyer Stewart Holt telling the court she is very young and would be particularly vulnerable in a custodial environment.
Magistrate Rosheehan O’Meagher refused the application.
“I’m not going to grant bail today. In my view cause has not been shown as to why Miss Mundy’s detention is not justified,” Magistrate O’Meagher told the court.
“I accept she is young and will be vulnerable in custody. This will be her first time in custody of any length. I have taken into account that a murder matter could take some years potentially to reach finalisation,” she said.
“In my view this is a strong prosecution case against each of the four co-accused including Miss Mundy.
“I accept the submission that she was a willing participant in the melee and ultimately the violence. Full time custody of considerable length is inevitable if convicted.”
All four have been remanded in custody to face court again on January 27 2026.
