NT teenager allegedly assaults paramedic

A Northern Territory teenager has allegedly crashed a stolen car, assaulted a paramedic who came to his aid and then attacked a cop after being taken to hospital.

Police have charged a 17-year-old boy after he broke into an Alice Springs residence in the early hours of Tuesday morning and stole a car.

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Leith Phillips says the youth was drink driving around the outback town before losing control and crashing.

"St John Ambulance and police attended the scene, where the youth then assaulted one of the ambulance officers and spat at two police officers," he said.

"He was taken to Alice Springs Hospital where he allegedly assaulted police again."

The young offender has been charged with a string of offences including unlawful entry, stealing, drink driving and four counts of assault.

He was refused police bail and will appear in Alice Springs Local Court on Tuesday.
