Library Membership Drive

Bega Valley Shire Libraries are getting involved in a public library membership drive.

It's just one of many major initiatives of the Nation Year of Reading.

The drive will be launched on Monday, along with other public libraries around the country.

The Council's Library Services Manager Ros Raward said she's hoping that people who had never been library members would join, and those who hadn't been in for a while would come to rediscover some great new services.

Council Tight-Lipped on Tavern Usage

The Bega Valley Shire Council is remaining tight-lipped over their plans for an embattled former pub they've recently purchased. Council last week successfully purchased the former Tura Beach Tavern premises at auction for $1.2 million - well below market value. Councillors authorised the General Manager, Peter Tegart, to bid up to an agreed amount at a closed session during last week’s Council meeting. Dangerous Surf Warning Continued

Surf Life Saving NSW is extending it's advisory to swimmers, surfers, rock fishermen and boat skippers to exercise caution as dangerous conditions are expected to continue through the week. A three to four metre southerly swell with a peak period of around 11 seconds will result in a higher level of risk on exposed beaches and headlands from the Mid North Coast to the Far South Coast, presenting a particular hazard for rock fishing. Gym Equipment for Batemans Bay Surf Lifesaving Club

Over 100 units of gym equipment has been distributed to surf clubs throughout New South Wales this autumn. The high quality equipment was generously donated from Fitness First to Surf Life Saving NSW and was then offered to the clubs. 24 Surf Clubs including 16 from regional areas such as Ballina SLSC in the state’s north, to as far south as Batemans Bay SLSC made the trip to Surf Life Saving NSW HQ in Sydney to pick up their equipment.
