Police say Missing Container may be on Far South Coast |

19 JANUARY 2012 A MISSING shipping container from a $150 million drug shipment could be on the Far South Coast. Police believe someone has “innocently obtained the container for legitimate purposes” and is now sitting on the illicit stash. NSW drug squad police acting commander Steve Patton told reporters today 12-15 kg of pseudoephedrine, or potentially heroin, is secretly hidden in the container that came to Australia from China. The drugs in the container are worth an estimated $1-3 million. The missing container is part of a record seizure of 540 kg of pseudoephedrine with an estimated street value of $150 million. It was first discovered in December last year. “At some point last year this syndicate lost control of 27 containers and today we are seeking public assistance to locate the last container,” detective acting superintendent Steve Patton said. “We believe this last container is still on the NSW south coast but it is possible it could be anywhere in Australia,” he said. According to Police, the 20-foot shipping container, spray painted grey inside, was sold on the far south coast of NSW between June and December last year.
