BINGIE FATALITY UPDATE 1 A report is being prepared for the Coroner into the fatal accident which occurred yesterday morning near Bingie. The 47 year old man died after police believe the man left the road and hit a tree, causing fatal injuries. The accident occurred at around 4am yesterday morning, around 300 metres East of the Princes Highway on Bingie Road. Anyone with information is being asked to contact Batemans Bay Police, or Crimestoppers on 1800-333-000. 25/02/2011 05:45 GILLARD CARBON PRICES 1 Home owners on the South Coast are being warned to brace for an increase in the price of power following the government's decision to place a price on carbon from next year. Starting in July 2012 the proposed carbon price will be fixed three to five years before moving to an emissions trading scheme. MARINE RESCUE BAY LAUNCH2 Narooma is the next town along the South Coast on the list to receive a new Marine Rescue vessel, according to the State office. The news comes following the launch of the new vessel, which will make it's way to Batemans Bay in the coming weeks. Ken McManus from Marine Rescue won't put a timeline on the new Narooma vessel, but says they're being considered at the moment. 25/02/2011 05:46 BERMAGUI HEALTH FORUM 1 Koori residents across the South Coast are being invited to a health clinic and fun day tomorrow in Bermagui. Mr Hatton has received concerns from local residents, and says the Council needs to act in the best interests of the community. Parrots Returned to Batemans Bay Animal Park
There's been a breakthrough in the case of six snakes and three parrots stolen from a Eurobodalla animal park. Two valuable Eclectic Parrots and a rare Corella/Galah-hybrid have been returned to the Birdland Animal Park in Batemans Bay, after being stolen some time over the weekend. But park owner David Burnett said the snakes are still out there - two carpet snakes and four diamond pythons - which are reportedly very sensitive to shifts in temperature. Green Light for Fishing in Bega Valley Lake
Fishing is now open in Wallagoot Lake on the NSW South Coast after the Lake was declared to be free from the noxious marine weed Caulerpa taxifolia (Caulerpa). NSW Department of Primary Industries (DPI) Aquatic Biosecurity Officer, Ben Rampano, said a fishing closure was put in place in Wallagoot Lake in 2007 shortly after the discovery of Caulerpa in the lake. “Caulerpa is listed as a Class 1 Noxious Marine Vegetation in NSW under the Fisheries Management Act 1994 due its potential to grow rapidly, alter marine habitats and affect biodiversity,” Mr Rampano said. “A fishing...
