WOOLIES MILK PRICE WAR 1 WOOLWORTHS admits the price war over milk will end up hurting dairy farmers. Milk is now selling for a dollar a litre - the lowest level since 1992. Community relations manager for WOOLWORTHS SIMON BERGER won't say when the discounting will stop - but concedes it could damage the industry. 28/02/2011 11:08

PAID PARENTAL LEAVE 1 Families across the MONARO have been reassured that the paid parental leave scheme will not be wrecked by the LIBERAL NATIONALS. It comes as Coalition M-P BRUCE BILLSON’S private members bill, designed to strip away a parent’s connection to the workforce while they’re on maternity leave, was rejected in the house of representatives last week. The scheme is delivered as a work place entitlement and allows new parents to take leave, just like they would in any other form, enabling businesses to retain skilled staff and increase workforce participation. Federal member for EDEN MONARO, MIKE KELLY says the paid parental leave scheme is great for families across the SNOWY MOUNTAINS and after waiting decades for something to be done, it’s good to see locals embrace it. 28/02/2011 08:02

Nurses, their employers or patients can fill out a nomination form online with categories for Nurse of the Year Innovation in Nursing or Graduate Nurse of the Year. MY SCHOOLS WEBSITE 1 Parents will be able to compare how much their child's school spends on each students education.. when the next version of the My School website goes live on Friday. The launch of the site was delayed after private schools complained some of the data calculated per student was misleading. GASH CARBON TAX CLAIMS 1 There are claims today every family budget on the South Coast could take a hit as high as a thousand dollars a year as a result of the government's decision to impose a carbon tax. The tax will come into effect mid next year and flies in the face of a promise by Prime Minister Julia Gillard prior to the last election, that it would not be introduced under a government she led. Gilmore MP Jo Gash says the Prime Minister's promise is now looking very shallow, and shows the greens are not afraid of using their new found influence to the detriment of Australian families. 28/02/2011 05:16

KELLY MEDICARE LOCALS 1 Eden-Monaro MP Mike Kelly is pleased with the introduction of a new Medicare scheme, which will allow for locals to access services across the South Coast. Mr Kelly says the scheme will be beneficial for many residents in the Bega Valley and Eurobodalla. 28/02/2011 12:53

YOUTH ALLOWANCE NASH 2 Local students may continue to struggle to access the Independent Youth Allowance next year - as its been announced changes to the criteria may not be made. It comes as a bill calling to make the criteria fairer for inner regional students, such as those who live on the South Coast - was voted down last week - and deemed unconstitutional. Under the current legislation inner regional students have to work harder for longer to access the Youth Allowance than others who live in different parts of the state. But Senator Fiona Nash says this may not be the case. 28/02/2011 12:49

FED GOVT EC FUNDING 1 Exceptional circumstances assistance will end in many parts of NEW SOUTH WALES, and VICTORIA.
21 declarations will expire at the end of MARCH in various parts of the country. The others - including the Eurobodalla and Bega Valley will see assistance run out by MARCH 31. The only part of VICTORIA still covered by E-C will be the East Gippsland. 28/02/2011 10:31

Call for 120kmh Zones Rejected

The NSW government is prepared to consider increasing speed limits on South Coast roads if it's deemed safe, Premier Barry O'Farrell sid. Roads Minister Duncan Gay has flagged raising speed limits by 5km or 10km per hour, if the roads meet certain standards. However, Mr Gay added that he coulnd’t think of a single road in the state that would meet said standards, including the Princes and Kings Highways. Princes Highway “Perfect” Claims Cause Backlash

The NRMA has reacted angrily to Labor Party claims that the Princes Highway from Nowra to the border one of the best roads in the world in terms of safety. The claim has been made by Labor candidate for Gilmore Neil Reilly, in defending last week's budget to allocate nothing to the Princes Highway.
