Greens defend carbon tax against critics

The Greens have dismissed claims struggling low and middle income families on the South Coast will be punished as a result of the Federal Government's decision to push ahead with a carbon tax. The tax is due to come into effect mid next year, and Gilmore Liberal Jo Gash says it could cost some families up to a thousand dollars a year. The MP claims it is a classic example of how the Greens to plan to use their new found influence in Canberra, to the detriment of locals, who are struggling to make ends meet. Greens South Coast candidate Amanda Findley says Mrs Gash's claims are scaremongering.

Locals Urged to Dob in Gun Runners

Minister for Home Affairs and Minister for Justice Jason Clare yesterday unveiled the next stage of a major reform program to crack down on the illegal firearms market in Australia. Operation Unification is a national public awareness campaign that encourages people to anonymously identify criminals who possess illegal firearms to police. Princes Highway Reopened Following Twin-Truck Crash

A twin-truck crash in the early hours of this morning closed the Princes Highway just north of Bega for more than four hours. Shortly after 3am, two medium truck – one a medium-sized flat tray and the other a Kenworth tipper towing an empty trailer – collided around 10km north of Bega. One of the vehicles rolled, spilling an amount of diesel fuel onto the road. No one was injured in the crash, but emergency crews took around four hours conducting a heavy salvage operation at the site, mopping up the spilled fuel. Dave Wright... Read more

A former Shoalhaven Police officer has been elevated to one of the most senior positions in the New South Wales force. 52 year old Assistant Commissioner Jeff Loy has been appointed as the new commander of the state's Northern Region.
